A city which is famous for temples such as Kashi Vishwanath, the holy river Ganga and the bathing Ghats along the river. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited city on earth. Popularly known as Kashi, Banaras, Varanasi, it is also an important destination for Hindus who believe that those who will die here will achieve salvation. The word Kashi is derived from the word "Kas" which means to shine.

Jitne kankad utne shankar is a common saying in Banaras. It means that each and every stone in Kashi is a symbol of Lord Shiva. The Famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple is also one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.

A day in Kashi would be waking up early and taking a sunrise boat ride along the river by negotiating with the countless boatmen standing along the ghats. Followed by visit to places of worship. Purchasing small floatings that offer flowers, wax diyas and releasing them on to the Ganges river gives a blissful and memorable experience that stays in the mind for long.

Saffron roped priests spread out flower petals and other offerings, to blow a conch shell that signals the start of the spiritual ceremony  "The Ganga Aarti"  a must have experience.

The simple and cool nature of the natives of Banaras adds to the charm. Come what may ' will be handled by Baba Vishwanath is the strongest belief that is visible all around. 

While in Banaras enjoy the local Kachori, Lassi, Chaat in areas around Chowk. Best time to travel is from October till March and enjoy the world famous "DevDipawali" at all the Ganga Ghats on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima.

Banaras is famous for its wooden toys, Banarasi pan, Mangoes and above all Banarasi Sarees. The Handwoven astounding pieces are a must on every visitors shopping list. Visting Banaras is a truly enigmatic experience.
